The Controller will be a key finance leader who will partner closely with the FP&A team and COO to build world class financial operations in support of the Company’s accelerating growth and global ambitions. The Controller position will oversee our financial statement close process and manage our daily financial operations, including defining efficient accounting processes & principles, owning regulatory compliance, overseeing accounts payables & collections, and managing audits.

You will be the accounting expert for the company and will partner with stakeholders across the company in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to develop and execute initiatives that will streamline, automate, and improve the accuracy of our financial reporting process while ensuring our systems and processes are well documented, scalable and running efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (What you will be doing):
  • Collaborate with the COO and Director of FP&A to build a world class financial operations system that meets the immediate needs of a high-growth startup while positioning the Company to be a global leader in our field. Identify and implement financial recording systems and processes designed to scale with the Company’s accelerated growth.
  • Oversee the monthly financial close process including ensuring team deadlines for month-end close and financial reporting requirements are met and in accordance with accounting policies and standard operating/controls.
  • Perform initial analysis & commentary at monthly financial close for communication to Executive Leadership team. Lead monthly P&L review meetings, elevate critical financial matters, and assist the COO to identify issues early and assess their financial impact, if any.
  • Perform all accounting and financial operations including management of the general ledger, revenue, inventory and cost of goods sold, AP/AR, R&D accounting, stock compensation and cash flow management. Oversee routine department activities such as initiating payments & wires to ensure that they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Partner with People Operations to review payroll and related journal entries & reconciliations, as well as assist in 401k administration and compliance testing.
  • Design, implement and monitor effective internal controls, including compliance with GAAP, applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial and tax reporting. Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement in the areas of accounting operations and financial reporting process/systems to increase automation and scale.
    • Education and/or Work Experience Requirements (What you need to succeed):
  • The candidate should have a master's degree in accounting or business administration - or equivalent business experience - and 7+ years of progressively responsible experience. Experience thriving in a startup and a willingness to wear multiple hats beyond the typical role are highly important. Ability to effectively partner with an executive team, to execute quickly and accurately, and a high level of written and oral communication skills are crucial for success.

    • Specific requirements include:
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting or business (or bachelor’s degree with equivalent business experience)
  • Strong technical accounting and financial knowledge, including US GAAP reporting requirements. Extensive knowledge of accounting/financial/operational principles and theory
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong leadership and management skills with the ability to drive accountability across the company
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining accuracy and delivering against deadlines
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a changing, fast paced startup environment
  • Experience developing and improving processes to make reporting better, faster and easier
  • Prior experience in an early stage, high growth startup environment
  • Prior experience in biotech, life sciences and/or science-data-as-a-service industry is a plus
  • CPA/CMA license (active or inactive) is preferred
  • 2+ years of management experience preferred
  • 2+ years of public accounting experience preferred
